As many of you may know, we had our forums hosted on another site that had experienced technical difficulties earlier this year. They tried their hardest to recover data from the thousands of forums that were hosted there, but in the end they were not able to get any of that information. I thought I would give our forums a bit of closure by posting the letter that finally explained what happened. so without further ado, here is that letter:
April 7, 2008
If you've reached this page, you were probably trying to access an old forum on eamped.com. On January 10th, eamped's ISP suffered a server power outage which resulted in catastrophic data lost on eamped's server. The resulting affect was that all forums hosted by eamped were lost. We (lefora.com) are sorry to have to report on such an unfortunate incident for the thousands of forum admins and the hundreds of thousands forum members.
Prior to the data lost, lefora.com had been in talks with eamped.com about forming a partnership between the two forum hosting companies. Eamped had previously offered phpbb forum software and we at lefora wished to add our new forum software as a choice for individuals.
When the outage occurred, lefora.com stepped in to help however we could. We hosted a new eamped homepage with an explanation of what happened. We also presented the option for new forums to be created on lefora.com. We worked with eamped to see if we could help recover any lost data (as we understand the frustration felt among forum members.) Eamped announced the data was not recoverable and would have to shut down their services.
To help alleviate some of the burden from prior eamped forum admins, we offered to redirect their old eamped url's to our new service, we even redirected some old eamped url's to forums on third-party providers to make sure members could come together in a new forum. We (lefora) tried to soften the blow as much as possible.
With eamped out of service and no ability to quickly return, lefora.com and eamped.com came to an agreement to have lefora purchase the eamped.com domain so that new forums could be created on lefora. If your forum was lost, we are sympathetic with your feelings and welcome you to the lefora.com service, but understand if you wish to work with another provider.
Sincerely,
The lefora team
